Child Abuse Prevention is Everyone's Responsibility

TCCPCAN History

The Tri-County Coalition for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (TCCPCAN) is a designated local council of the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) for Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Kalkaska counties. It was formed in 1983 and incorporated in 1985 as a nonprofit organization. In 1993, TCCPCAN received a 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service. The coalition is made up of a group of volunteers both lay and professional committed to helping children and their families.

Vision

An organization dedicated to assuring that all children in Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties live in an environment free of child abuse and neglect.

Mission

Our mission is to promote greater public awareness of the causes, incidents and effects of child abuse and neglect; to provide the opportunity for networking, sharing and collaboration; and to help fund the development of prevention programs in Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties.

Recent activities

  • Traverse City Area Pubic Schools/Traverse City High School Teen Parenting Education Modules
  • Doula Teen Parent Program (DTPP) - Newsletter - a mentoring program for expectant and new moms
  • Our communities have the capability of increasing the prevention of child abuse & neglect.
  • Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council Conscious Discipline Project (parenting classes)
  • North Shore Safe Kids: Expectant Parent Car Seat Program
  • Teen Health Corner: Northside Parenting Class for teen and young parents
  • Traverse City Area Public School’s Gender Equity Committee -- Tough Guise: Violence, Media & the Crisis in Masculinity" (non-bullying program)
  • Grand Traverse Area Shaken Baby Committee Project
  • Brought in speaker "Jeanne Fowler," a victim of abuse, who spoke to counselors, school personnel, law enforcement, etc. on what signs to look for in children in abusive situations
  • Sponsored five Mandatory Reporter Trainings throughout the year to childcare providers and school personnel to help them in there reporting of child abuse.
  • Provided many printed brochures and flyers free of charge to families and agencies on topics of parenting, prevention, etc.
